Things to have Nearby when Changing a Diaper
(459 Words)
You have just opened that diaper to a rather nasty surprise (and your baby’s chuckle). You reach for the pile of diapers next to you to find an empty package instead. You probably will have nothing more eloquent to say than an a expectative as you run around with a naked baby to find that unopened package of diapers in the garage (or worse the store)! To avoid such a scenario, make sure you have the following items with you.
Diapers
It may sound obvious, but many have found themselves in the situation listed above. You do not want to have to run for this because once that diaper is off it may only be a matter of time before the baby decides to “go” more. Do not put off refilling these! You may want to keep a couple of extra somewhere else so that if you run out in the one spot you have a back-up plan.
Wipes
Wipes are almost as important as diapers in many cases. Most parents will use at least one or two for a diaper change. You want to have them in an easy to access container so that you do not have to leave the side of the baby in order to reach for them.
Diaper cream
Unfortunately many babies get diaper rash or other irritations. You may want to have some diaper cream such as Destin so that you can apply it if you need to. Many babies are very uncomfortable when irritated, and you want the diaper change to be as quick as possible for them.
You may want to also consider having an antibiotic ointment near the diaper changing area as well if your baby gets sores that require it. Of course, talk to your doctor about such usage prior to implementation.
Garbage can
You want to get those soiled diapers “contained” as soon as possible. Although you probably wish you had a hazardous waste bin, many choose a diaper pail. Diaper pails often end up smelling, however, thus if you change your regular garbage often you could consider just putting it in there. What some people choose to do is to purchase scented blue bags to put in the “nastier” diapers and then throw those into the regular garbage. Make sure to keep such bags nearby if you use them.
Toy
Many babies do not like to have their diapers changed. A toy may distract them for a few minutes, however, so you may want to have one close to this area.
Leaving a baby on a changing table is dangerous, even for a second. It is imperative to have all that you need right by you. The above items are some that you may want to consider.
