Dr Seuss Art Activities for Kids

(455 Words)
Adults and children alike love the magical world of Dr. Seuss. One way to make his beloved storybooks come to life is to create art projects for the children to do. There are many different art projects that you can create, which will depend on the age and the skills of the children.
Decorate their own hat from the “Cat in the Hat”
The children can pretend to be the Cat in the Hat by making their very own hat. You can purchase plain hats from a source such as Oriental Trading Company, and then get fabric markers and paints. Have them decorate it however they would like. It can be similar to the one in the book or they can put their own “spin” on it. You can even then have them make little Cats in the Hat out of paper that they can cut out and stick in their hats just like in the Dr. Seuss storybooks.
Dr. Seuss puppet
You can have the children make puppets from the characters of Dr. Seuss. For instance, they can make puppets of the Cat in the Hat. You can start with a plain white sock. A simple way to do it would be to get fabric markers and have the children draw in the face. You can also have them glue on embellishments such as fabric pieces, glitter, sequins, rhinestones, eyes and more. They can cut out the fabric pieces if they are a little older. Make sure that all of the materials you get such as glue will work on fabric.
Dr. Seuss mask
You can have the children become the characters in the Dr. Seuss novels by making masks. Take some thick paper. Either you can cut out the mask in the shape of a face or they can. Take a large rubber band and cut it in half. Tape or tie the ends of the rubber bands to the sides of the masks so that it will stay on the children. Cut out holes for the eyes, nose and mouth. The children can then use markers, paint, crayons, colored pencils and embellishments to make a character such as the Lorax.
Create their own Dr. Seuss character
The characters in the books of Dr. Seuss are quite fanciful and unusual. You can have the children make their own Dr. Seuss character. They can draw or paint it on paper. They can take inspiration from the books but come up with their own unique ideas for the bodies, faces and hair of the creatures. They can give them names.
An art project can be a fun way to explore the amazing works of Dr. Seuss. Try different ideas to bring these characters to life.
