If you suffer from back pain, then you are far from alone. Many suffer from this debilitating condition. If you have pain, then the first thing to do is to consult your physician or a specialist. It may be something that requires surgery, physical therapy or other more intensive care. Otherwise consider the following tips to manage this pain.
Try heat
Some feel that heat can help relieve some of the pain. They may take a hot bath or use a warm compress. They also make heated pads that you can put onto your back to help relieve the pain throughout the day.
Alcohol
Some find that rubbing alcohol can help with the pain of a backache.
Consider a massage
Some people find that massages can help ease back pain. Others may find that it exacerbates it. You can try it to see if it might help you but you should tell them of your problems and whether it hurts during the session.
Make sure that you are sleeping in a way that is good for your back
Some people find a big difference in the type of mattress they have or how they sleep. You may find that your back pain improves significantly with a certain type of bed. You might want to try out different types to see if there is one that is best for your back. Also a thick pad for the top added to an existing mattress might be enough.
Do not do things to aggravate it
If you have back pain then you will want to be very careful about not doing something that can make it worse. Avoid lifting heavy objects for instance. Make sure to have correct posture and to lift things in the correct manner.
Of course, many manage back pain with medication. You may use a topical medication such as Icy Hot. You may use a pain reliever such as Advil. You will need to be careful however. Many have back pain as a chronic condition but a lot of the pain relievers are not meant to be taken continuously. They may have risks such as that to your liver. Be sure to consult your doctor on the medications you are taking for your back pain, especially if you are doing so for a long time. Also look at the warnings on the medication bottle to see how long they recommend to take them at a maximum.
Back pain can be difficult to deal with. The above tips can help you manage this pain.
