How to Plan a Working Vacation

Working and vacation may seem like two polar terms, however for some they inevitably go together. You want to go on vacation, but have no choice but to conduct a little (or a lot of) business while you are away. Use the following guide to plan such a vacation.
Pick your destination carefully
You may already know where you are going, however some will have a lot of choices. You want to make sure that you will be able to work wherever you are going. For instance, you may need phone coverage to conduct your business. If you need other services such as electricity then you need to make sure that you have that (i.e. camping may be out).
Carefully pick your dates
There are different factors to consider when planning the timing of a working vacation. You may need to go when you are not too busy at work so that you can get away. You may want to correlate with a specific meeting.
Plan where you are going to stay
You will have additional considerations when thinking about your lodgings on a working vacation compared to a regular one. For instance, you may have certain needs in the hotel such as wi-fi. You may want a desk in the room. If you will be spending a good amount of time in the hotel doing work, then you might want there to be kitchen so that you can make yourself some food.
Plan how to get there
There are different things to consider when deciding on transportation. First you might need to look at the cost of flying versus driving versus a train. Think about whether you will need to incur an extra cost to rent a car. Also think about whether you can afford to spend the time in your car. For some, they may actually use the time on the road to work. For instance, if you are going with your family and you are a freelance writer, then you might be able to work while you are driving so that might not be wasted time at all.
Plan your schedule
It can be difficult to have the competing aspects of work and play while you are on a working vacation. Therefore you may be better off if you can make a schedule. Of course this might not be completely possible such as if you depend on people from work to call you, but you may be able to make specific times that you will do each so that you can really focus on one at a time.
A working vacation can be doable if you spend the time to plan. Use the above tips to make such a trip.
