:
(420 Words)
With the number of overweight Americans at sky-high numbers, the problem does not limit itself to adults. Many children are now overweight, and such a state can set them on course for an unhealthy adulthood as well as social difficulties at school and in life. It is important to motivate your child lose weight, however you will need to be extremely delicate in doing so.
Sign your child up for something active and fun
One way to motivate a child lose weight is to help them become more active. Children who run around and perform other physical activities will burn more calories than those who remain sedentary. There are many sports clubs for children of all ages that can give a lot of exercise such as soccer or football. Of course make sure that it is something the child wants to do or else it might just make them miserable.
You can also play some sort of sport with your child. If you have any tennis, racquetball or paddleball courts near you, then you can take them out for a fun game. Perhaps you can jog with him or her. You can just make an effort to be more active in daily activities such as by walking to somewhere that is close or taking the elevator instead of the stairs. You can buy aerobics tapes and do it with him or her. You can also buy some sort of exercise machine for the house such as a treadmill or an exercise bike. Think about what your child likes to do. If he or she loves the water, for instance, then you can take him or her to the pool and try to swim some laps together.
Motivate your child to eat healthier
Of course you can talk to your child about healthy eating. You might not want to do it in a “You are overweight” sort of way but instead discuss the importance of eating healthy to avoid future health problems.
You can also make some delicious and yet healthy food, which might motivate your child to lose weight. You can have him or her help you to cook.
As your child loses weight, you can talk about how proud that you are of them. Again be careful even with this because some children end up going too far and develop an eating disorder. It is a fine line you must walk, but with time and effort, you may be successful in your bid to help your child lose weight.
