Waxing Safety Considerations
(423 Words)
Many women go to the salon to get waxing done, or they do it themselves. This is a great hair removal process that removes hair for longer than shaving. Women get waxing on all different body parts including the eyebrows, chin, underarms and legs. There are safety considerations to waxing that a woman should be aware of, however. These include the following.
First, you have to be careful with the temperature of wax. With many types of wax, they will heat it up to a very high degree. If it is too hot, you should hold it for a minute on the applicator so that it can cool off a little and not burn your skin. This is especially important if you are heating it up yourself. Make sure to read all of the included safety precautions when handling and heating the wax if you are using an at home kit.
Make sure that you do not have a reaction to the wax. Many kits recommend that you try the wax on a small area of skin first to make sure that you react well to it. It is normal for the skin to be a little red, swollen and irritated after the waxing, but it should not be severe and should go away quickly. If, instead, you get a serious reaction, then you may want to consider another type of hair removal.
Some people should not get waxing because of other issues. This may vary based on the exact type of wax that the beautician or you are using. For instance, some people with diabetes, high blood pressure or other conditions that affect the skin may not be able to wax with certain types of waxes. Also, if you use certain skin care products such as a prescription acne medicine, you may not be able to do it. Talk to the manicurist or read the exact safety precautions on the waxing kit instructions to know exactly what applies to you.
Do not wax over an area that is infected or has another problem. Because waxing can irritate the skin, you want to make sure that there is not a problem that already exists. The waxing may further irritate the problem. Also, if you see anything that looks like an infection or another such problem forming, consult a physician for further guidance.
Waxing can be a quick and convenient form of hair removal, but it can cause problems if not done correctly. Consider the above safety issues when using this type of treatment.
