How to Choose Brick Color for a House
You will have many choices when it comes to brick colors for your home. Different people will prefer different colors so there is no one right color. The following are tips for choosing the right one for you.
Consider whether you want the typical natural brick color
Made of clay, brick often starts out as a reddish color. You will first want to decide whether this is right for you. A lot of people like the natural look, and this can hold up well over the years. It can look very stately. For many, this is the only choice they will pick.
Think about the colors that you like
If you decide to paint the bricks, then you will have all of the colors of the rainbow from which to choose. You should think about the colors you like. Obviously if you hate the color green you will not choose that.
It is important to think about how the color will look in the context of a house. For instance, your favorite color might be hot pink or fluorescent yellow, but this does not usually translate well to a good brick color. Remember that within each color there are many different hues from which to choose.
Drive around to look at houses with different brick colors
One step that can be helpful in choosing the right brick color for your home is to look at different homes. Sometimes it is hard to imagine how a home will actually look with a color, thus it would be great if you could find a home that you like and try to match that. If you do not know of a lot of houses with different colored bricks, then you can instead try to look at pictures. There are many design books that you might find in a store that sells paints such as a hardware store. In addition, you should be able to find pictures of just about every color on the Internet. If you are good at using the computer and photo programs you should even be able to take a picture of your actual house and try to make the bricks look a different color through photo editing.
Consider what you want to portray with your brick color
Different brick colors portray different things. If you want it to be more conservative then you can just stick to the traditional brick color or a more subtle color such as white. If you want something that really stands out you can go for a brighter color.
A brick color can change the way your home looks. Consider the above tips to help you make this selection.
