: How to get your Child to Accept Clothing from the Discount Store

In the fantasy world of childhood, many kids do not understand the financial struggles of the real world. They may be bitter at having to wear clothing from the discount store and even angry at you for “putting them through such a thing.” The following are some tips for getting your children to accept such clothing.
Talk to them if they are old enough
You do not want to scare your young children about something they are not ready to hear but an older child such as a teenager should understand that money does not indeed grow on trees. You do not have to go through your bank account with them, but you can make them understand that it is important to spend wisely, and that sometimes discount stores are a reality of this.
Practice what you preach
Your child is going to have a much more difficult time accepting wearing clothing from a discount store if you are walking around in Haute Couture. You might want to show your children that you are willing to make this sacrifice as well. You can even buy your clothing from the exact same places at the exact same time as your children. Show that you are happy with this decision.
Look for the discount stores where you can get better wares
Not all discount stores are created equal. There are some where you can get much better deals and thus might be able to afford better clothing. Also, they have some discount stores such as Ross where they have name brand and designer clothing but they are much cheaper. Your child may still be able to get the exact same clothing and brands he or she could get at the more expensive store but you would pay less. It would be a win-win situation for everyone.
Bring your child with you shopping to let them pick out their clothing
Your child might feel better about wearing clothing from the discount store if they can pick it out themselves. Make enough time for this so that they don’t have to rush. Let them try on the different items so that they can find something that fits their personality and style.
It can be difficult to deal with children who are upset about wearing clothing from the discount stores. The above tips can help your child – and you – feel better about this situation.
