For instance, if you are doing a princess theme for a little girl, then you might want to get a princess cake. Even when you know what theme you want, you will still have choices a lot of times. For instance, many bakeries will actually have several cakes with princess themes. There are many theme cakes at the bakery to go along with the themes you will see at the party stores in the way of decorations, paper goods and so forth.
Think about what your child likes
You should think about your child’s likes. You can have just about any theme you like. For instance, if your little boy likes trains, you can get him that. If your daughter likes ballerinas, then you will probably be able to find one in a bakery that has a large supply. A lot of bakeries will make something specifically for you if they do not already have one. Custom cakes can be expensive however.

There are many generic cakes that are very pretty. They may just have icing of different colors on them or flowers. They may have balloons or other birthday themes.

There are a lot of cakes with unique shapes. For instance, they sell a princess cake that is actually a cake “dress” on top of a Barbie doll. These are very unusual and very cute. They also have cakes in the shapes of bears and other items.
