It will help the child not be jealous of his or her sibling
A child will be understandably jealous when it is his or her sibling’s birthday. It is difficult for a little kid to watch someone else get all of the attention. They might even act out because of it or have worse feelings toward their sibling. A gift can help alleviate this because they can feel that someone remembered them too.

Some people just get a gift because they figure why not. The other child will be getting so many gifts. It would be nice to be able to get the other child something so that they can be happy about that. You could even have it be that the gift is from the birthday child himself. This can just help to spread the joy around.

You do not want to spend more money
Some people do not want to have to spend more money. Many kids have a lot of toys and they may just feel that enough is enough and that they shouldn’t give a child a present if it is not an occasion.
It teaches the child that it isn’t always about them. Some children feel like things should always be about them. When it is their sibling’s birthday they should all be celebrating the sibling. Having the birthday child as the only one to get the presents reinforces that.
There are different things that will affect your decision about whether to give the child a present. You may want to do it more with a very young child who would have a much more difficult time watching his or her sibling get all of the presents. If you have a child who is very materialistic and never shares then you might not want to do it. If you have a child who is great at sharing, then it might be nice to reward that as well.
