It is extremely important for teachers to avoid catching the H1N1 flu. There are many different reasons for this. The following are some of these reasons.
The biggest reason that teachers should avoid the H1N1 flu is that they might spread it to their students. Teachers come into contact with a lot of different kids, easily over a hundred in a single day in many schools. If they have the H1N1 flu, then they might end up spreading it to their students.
Another issue is that it is often very difficult for teachers to take off of work. It is not like other types of jobs where the work might just be able to sit for a day. If you are a teacher your class will go on whether you are there or not and they will have to find a substitute teacher. Therefore many teachers might come to school even when they are feeling a little off, and if they have the H1N1 flu, they might spread it to their students.
Another reason why teachers might be very likely to spread it to their students is that they are always touching different papers and giving it to their students. Many teachers are constantly giving out papers and taking them in and the different items may come into contact with them and the students. It might be more likely to pass because of this.
Teachers often work in very small classrooms with a lot of students. They cannot just stay away from their students. Thus the students might be more likely to get it because they are all breathing the same air so close to each other.
Teachers are also teaching young men and women who have been shown to be at higher risk for the H1N1 flu because they did not get the prior exposure to similar strains that have helped a lot of older people become less likely to get it. Unlike many of the other flus and conditions, they are in a higher risk group.
If one student or a few students get it from them then they may pass it to others. During this pandemic, there have been many schools that have literally needed to shut down because so many people got the H1N1 flu. Some of them had half of the people have it! This can literally start from one teacher since it is such a contagious disease. Also many students are not good at washing their hands and taking other preventive measures that could help stop its spread.
For the above reasons, it is very important for teachers to avoid the H1N1 flu.
