Just because you are renting a home does not mean that you do not want to decorate it to be to your own style and tastes. There are some things you will want to take into consideration, however, because you do not own the home. The following are some decorating tips for renters.
First, make sure to find out what you are permitted to do
You will want to be sure to find out what you are allowed to do before doing anything. Some contracts have certain rules, and you might not be able to make certain changes. They may impose a penalty, or the person might even be able to sue you for breach of contract if there is a problem. Sometimes they will allow you to make changes if you are sure to change it back when you are moving on. Just make sure that you understand what you can and cannot do.
Choose ways to hang things that do not make a lot of damage to the walls
If you damage the walls, there is a good chance you will have to either fix it or financially compensate the owners. There are different things that you can do that allow you to hang things or decorate without damaging the walls. For instance, if you are hanging something that is very light, you may be able to use a sticky hanging putty rather than nails. This looks like silly putty and sticks to the back of what you want to hang on. You press it into the wall, and it should hang something that is very light. When you are done, you just pull it off and then you will have no problem or damage to fix. You can find such products at some office supply stores as well as some general stores.
Try to find easy ways to decorate that are quick
You might not want to spend a lot of time and effort decorating your home if you are only going to be there for a short period of time. There are ways that you can decorate that are easy and quick. For instance, if you have a nice shelf, you can buy things to put on it as opposed to hanging a lot of different things behind it. Also, be careful about buying a lot of things that only fit in at that rented space and would not look good elsewhere since you might not stay there forever.
