Advantages and Disadvantages to a Home Day Care Center

(411 Words)
There are both pros and cons to home day care facilities. They are the best for some people but do not work for other parents. You should consider both the advantages and disadvantages of a home day care facility when making the decision as to whether this is right for your family.
Pros
Home day care facilities offer a more personalized environment than most commercial day care facilities. Home day care facilities are usually limited by law as to how many children they can have. Home day care facilities may only have three or four children, whereas a commercial day care facility could literally have hundreds of children. If you want an environment that is more similar to a home as compared to a day care, then a home day care facility might be the way to go.
Another advantage of a home day care facility is that you can specifically choose the person who will be watching your child. When you go to a commercial day care facility you are stuck with whoever is working there, and you may not even know the person who is watching your child.
Many home day care facilities take the children out all the time. They may go out every single day to different events, such as storytimes at a library. In a commercial day care facility, your child may be more likely to stay in the facility.
Cons
You may not feel as safe in a home day care facility. A commercial day care facility might run background checks and other safety checks on the employees that you would not get at a home day care facility, unless you did it yourself.
A home day care facility may not offer as nice a facility as a commercial day care center. For instance, a commercial day care center may be able to afford an expansive commercial playground whereas a home day care may just have a small playground. A commercial day care might have many different toys of all types. They may have special computer programs or other things that are costly but which they can afford because they are such a large venture.
You may also prefer the busier environment of a commercial day care center, especially if you are trying to prepare your child for school.
There are both pros and cons to choosing a home day care facility. Look at both of these when deciding whether to pursue this childcare option.
