Dressing to Exercise when it is Cold
Just because it is cold outside does not mean that you can’t get your workout in. It is very important to dress correctly, however, because you do not want to get overly cold. Of course if you dress like you normally would when it is that cold, you might end up getting hot because of all of the energy you are burning. There are different ways that you can dress for a workout when it is cold outside.
First, you want to make sure that all of the clothing you wear is either made to be workout clothing or comfortable like workout clothing would be. You want to make sure that you have free range of movement so that you do not cut off your circulation or hurt yourself by doing the exercises wrong.
Many people choose to layer when they are exercising outside in the cold. This is great because you can stay warm when you start out but then can remove layers as you get into your exercise and warm up. This is especially good if you have a place where you can drop off the excess clothing such as if you are jogging around your neighborhood and can drop it off in front of your house.
Many people wear leggings when it is cold outside. It might be too cold to wear shorts and you want your legs to be covered. Leggings come in different sizes and thicknesses. Ones made for workouts will allow you free range of movement and won’t get in your way as you are exercising.
You can also buy a jogging suit or a track suit. These might have looser pants that have an elastic or drawstring waistband. Some people who are layering will start with a t-shirt as a first layer. Above that you can put the jacket that goes with a track suit or a jogging suit or any comfortable jacket.
If it is cooler, you might want to consider wearing a velour suit. This is very warm, but it is lightweight and very comfortable. Make sure that it fits well and is not too long.
You can also layer other types of workout clothing. Some people like to put a warm sweatshirt on. You might exercise in a full sweatsuit. You may even need heavier clothing but the best technique is to layer. You can also wear accessories such as a hat and gloves. Try on the different outfits to see what is the most comfortable for you.
