How Drinks may be Sabatgoing your Diet

(518 Words)
You are extremely careful with what you eat while on your diet. You count every single calorie and mark it down, yet you still have trouble losing weight. The problem might not be what you eat, but instead what you drink. Beverages can add a lot of calories to your diet, but do not tend to fill people up despite the amount of calories. There are certain drinks that you should be especially careful to drink in moderation while on a diet.
Soft drinks
Avoid all regular soft drinks while on a diet. These contain a great deal of sugar and calories. You may drink one of the larger bottles in one sitting, and they will often contain several servings so you may not even realize how many calories you are drinking. If you must have a little soda go for diet or water it down so you do not have as much. It will just provide you with sugar and calories without a nutritional benefit.
Sugary drinks
Avoid other sugary drinks. These include fruit punches and lemonade. Some people use these as an alternative to sodas but they will often have just as many calories and sugar. Also avoid drinks like Cool-Aid and fruit drinks that have very little actual juice in them.
Alcohol
There is a reason that they call it a “beer belly.” People are so concerned about the effects of alcohol that they sometimes forget the fact that alcohol has a lot of calories. It helps if you get light drinks or mix them with calorie-free drinks such as seltzer. You may get carried away while drinking and not realize how many calories you are consuming.
Have juices and energy drinks in moderation
Juice needs to be consumed in moderation when you are on a diet. Unlike sodas, juice does provide nutritional benefit (although not generally as much as the actual fruit) and it does help that the sugar in it comes from a natural source. As long as you count the calories, a little juice can be part of a balanced diet, but make sure you have 100% juice. You may want to try to stick with one glass a day. You can also water it down.
Many people drink the sweetened energy drinks while they exercise, but most do not actually gain a benefit from these. For most people who are not exercising extremely vigorously, plain water is just fine. These energy drinks often have a lot of sugar, and the calories can add up.
Shakes and smoothies
You can literally have 1000 calories in a smoothie or a shake. Unless you make yourself a healthy version with items like yogurt, fruits and vegetables, be very careful about consuming these. Any of the ones that are based on ice cream with usually have a lot of calories. The same goes for coffee drinks that have cream, sugar, syrups and other calorie-laden ingredients.
There are many different drinks to avoid while on a diet. If you have drinks with calories, make sure to count them so that you can remain on your diet.
