(513 Words)
Running is an excellent form of exercise. It can provide a cardiovascular benefit because you can get your heart rate up. It is also great because it does not cost anything to run outside. You may not like to run alone, however. A running group can be a great way to enjoy running with others and to keep yourself motivated. If there is not a good running group for you to join then consider organizing your own.
First, come up with the details of your running group so that when you approach people you’ll know what to tell them. How often do you want to meet? Think about your schedule and when you will be able to commit. Since you are organizing the running group, you’ll probably want to make most or all of the meetings. You might want to do something that is just once a week or several times a week.
Carefully plan the time of your running group. Think about when you will be regularly available. There are other factors to consider as well. You need to think about the times that potential runners will be available. For instance, you may not work and be available in the morning but most of the people you are considering might have day jobs. In that case, consider making it in the evening. You might want to do it a little later so it is not interfere with dinner, but do not make it so late that people will not want to do it because they need to get home because they have to get up for work the next morning.
You also might want to consider the weather outside. If you are doing it on a weekend afternoon, remember that it may be very hot during the warmer months. You can adjust the schedule as the weather changes.
Decide where you want to run. It should be somewhere that is very safe. A park or along the beach may be an ideal place. To the extent possible, avoid crossing streets or other places where cars are located. You also might want to avoid running right next to cars so that you do not smell exhaust fumes.
Now you are ready to start approaching people. You can ask friends, coworkers or others to exercise with you. You might want to try to find people who are somewhat similar in abilities. For instance, someone who was a high school track star might run far faster than someone who is extremely out of shape. Also decide what will happen when there are people with different levels. Will you break up, or do you want to stay together?
Tell them about the details. Depending on your response you might want to adjust something. Make a plan for the first meeting and try to keep track of who is coming. Exchange contact information. You can change as necessary as you keep meeting.
A running group can be a great way to help you keep in shape. The above tips can help you create one of your own.
