Work Family Coping Strategies of Smart Stay at Home Moms

(485 Words)
Balancing work and family can be a challenge of major proportions. Mothers want to be the best moms they can be, yet often have other commitments, which cannot be ignored. The following coping strategies can help smart stay-at-home moms adjust.
Plan time to devote to each activity
It can be very difficult to achieve either the goal of being a great parent or working at your job if you always feel like you are trying to accomplish both at once. One useful strategy is to budget your time wisely just as you would do with your money. Plan specific times to devote to your kids and your job. When it is time for you to be working on one, then try to avoid the other from intruding into your thoughts if it will just slow you down and make you less efficient and effective.
You should also carefully consider the timing when planning activities. For instance, if you can work the quickest early in the morning, then you can plan your work activities for them so that you get done as quickly as possible. Try to work when you have enough time to focus so that you do not lose time by constantly switching back and forth between the two activities.
Limit distractions
When only a finite amount of time and what might seem like an infinite amount of tasks, you want to work as quickly and as efficiently as possible as a stay at home mom. You can do this by limiting distractions. You may want to avoid answering the phone or surfing the Internet when you are working, for instance.
Let go of the guilt
Many moms feel like they have to be Supermoms. They feel like they have to accomplish it all. Realistically, when you have two large goals, it is not always easy to balance. Do the best you can, but do not let yourself feel guilt because you cannot make more time than there is during the day.
Give yourself time to relax
Even if it seems like you have no time at all, it is still important to make a little time that you are not focused on either work or family. You will be able to accomplish these and cope better if you give yourself some time. It may be about going out with friends, reading a nice book or just doing what you want to do, but make sure that you have time for it.
Ask for help
You do not have to do everything by yourself. It is okay to ask for help from family members, friends and other loved ones. You may even want to hire a mother’s helper to help you with the kids if you need to focus on working.
Balancing work and family when you are a stay-at-home mom can be challenging. The above tips can help you navigate these rough waters.
