Should you Join a Running Group

There are many running groups in local areas across the United States. These groups meet on a regular basis in order to run for enjoyment and exercise. Depending on their location, they may run through streets, in a park, along the beach, on a track or in another area. How often they meet ranges based on the group, but they may meet several times a week or more or less. There are both advantages and disadvantages to joining a running group.
Advantages
One advantage of a running group is that it may be motivational. You may have trouble getting yourself to keep up with your exercise routine but if you know others will be out there expecting you then you might be more likely to go. You might also be motivated while running. The group may challenge you, and you may find that you are running faster and for longer because of it.
Many people enjoy running with others. You may like the social aspect of it. You can meet others who like running and make new friends. It might make it more fun for you.
You might feel more comfortable running with others. You may not feel safe running by yourself.
Disadvantages
One disadvantage is that you will have to run at the pace of the group. They may be running at a pace that is not good for you. If they are running too fast you may have difficulty keeping up. There is no point if you end up falling behind and not being able to stay with them. Even if you can keep up it is still a problem if it is faster than you want.
They may go too slow for you. You may not get the run you desire. They may stop too often and interrupt your routine.
Another disadvantage of a running group is that it might not be convenient for you. You will have to exercise at the times that they have it, and this may not be the best time for you.
You will also have the added factor of needing to get to wherever they meet. You might not have the time to add a half an hour of driving time to your workout.
Some people do not like running with others. You may prefer to do it yourself and just enjoy music or being on your own.
Running in a group can be very fun and motivational, but it is not for everyone. If you are interested then evaluate the different options near you and pick the best one.
