Some people are die-hard fans. They may choose to name their child after a celebrity. There are many arguments against such a decision, however, and these include the following.
The child might feel embarrassed
If it is obvious that the child is named after a celebrity then he or she might be embarrassed about it. He or she might even get teased in school when it gets to that point. A lot of kids have a difficult enough time in school as it is and adding another reason for them to be teased is not great. It is not something that most parents do and they may feel strange about it. Even when he or she becomes an adult, he or she might still not like the name and be embarrassed to tell people about it.
You may want to name your child something more meaningful
A child may feel bad that you decided to name them after a celebrity instead of someone more personally important to your family such as a family member. It might make them feel like you made the decision of their naming lightly. They may want to be named something special on their own or as an honor to someone else.
You may also have another name that you really think is pretty that you gave up in order to give the celebrity name. Your child may miss out on a more unusual or nicer name because you are so focused on the celebrity.
You may receive a lot of comments
You may not like the comments that you receive if you name your child after a celebrity. Others may think that it is a juvenile thing to do. They may think that you are obsessed with the celebrity. Your family may give you problems because of it.
You may stop liking the celebrity and then be stuck with the name
Oftentimes people like certain celebrities almost as a fad. They may be a big fan for a time but then not as much as time passes on. If you get past your feelings for them, then you may feel bad that you made your child be his or her namesake. You may wish that you had chosen something else.
Although it may seem tempting to name a child after a celebrity there are a lot of reasons not to do so. The above points highlight some of these reasons.
