Christmas how to Enjoy Christmas when your Spouse is Deployed
It can be difficult to enjoy Christmas when your spouse is deployed. Of course a part of you will wish to be with him or her, but that doesn’t mean that the holiday cannot be special and meaningful to you. Consider the following strategies.
Take a trip
You may have more trouble enjoying Christmas if you are sitting in an empty house staring at pictures of the two of you and missing him or her very much. You might want to see if you can go on a vacation, preferably with others or to visit people. When people go on vacation, they are often very busy and you can get caught in the excitement of the trip. It can be a great way to have fun and perhaps spend a little less time missing your loved one.
Send him or her something special
You might miss a lot of the exchanges with your spouse, but in a lot of cases you might be able to still have some. You might be able to talk to each other on the phone. You might be able to send him a nice Christmas present. You can try to do something special. It might make you feel good to be sharing some of Christmas with him or her even though he or she is deployed. You can also do something special that will be a surprise for him or her for when they get back such as do a home improvement or buy something for the house.
Fill up your days
There are often many opportunities for socialization during Christmas. There might be a lot of parities and opportunities for charity work. You might want to keep yourself as busy as possible with activities that you enjoy. Of course do not overwhelm yourself, but keeping active may help you be able to have fun during the holiday.
Invite guests to your house
Part of the difficulty of having a deployed spouse on Christmas is feeling lonely at a time when so many are with family. You might be able to be with other people even if you are not able to travel yourself. You can invite others to your home. Usually house guests can keep people pretty busy and give you that family connection that you want.
It can be difficult to enjoy Christmas when your spouse is deployed, but with effort, you can still have a nice holiday season.
