There are many different types of gloves that you might choose to wear for your wedding, from beautiful silk long gloves with embroidered flowers to shorter gloves and more. There are both advantages and disadvantages to wearing gloves with your wedding dress, including the following.
Advantages:
They can give an elegant look
Gloves can be extremely lovely to add to a wedding dress. Many find them to be the height of elegance that can bring your style to another level.
They come with the dress
Sometimes gloves are meant to go with the dress. They may match with the same material, embroidery or other characteristics. They were specifically chosen by the wedding dress designer as something that would add to the dress.
They can make a plainer wedding gown seem much more substantial
Many women purchase simpler wedding gowns. It might be what they can afford or simply the look that they want. They may want it to be a little more special, however, and gloves can provide this. You can purchase gloves that have Swarovski crystals on them. It can add that “bling” or something special if the dress is not as exciting.
They can help keep your hands and arms warm
If you are getting married during a colder time but do not want a long sleeved wedding dress, then gloves can be a way of providing extra warmth.
Disadvantages
It can be difficult to match exactly
If the gloves do not come with the dress, then you might have difficulty finding something that matches exactly. Just because you have a white dress does not mean that you can purchase white gloves and then be set. The exact shade of white might be a little off. If the material is different, then it can also look mismatched.
It is “too much”
Some brides might find the addition of gloves to be too much. They might want something very simple and for them personally it might be “over the top.”
They find them inconvenient to wear
Most women are not used to always wearing gloves. They may find them uncomfortable and be aware of them when they should just be enjoying their wedding.
They may get dirty
If you touch something dirty with pure white gloves, then they may get dirty and it will be hard to get them clean in the middle of your wedding. It can also make washing your hands and going to the bathroom less convenient
There are both pros and cons to wearing gloves for your wedding day. Ultimately it is going to be the individual choice for the bride. If you like the look, but find it inconvenient, then one idea is to wear it during the wedding ceremony and pictures but then take it off for the reception. Otherwise consider the above advantages and disadvantages when making your decision.
