With so many people in difficult financial situations, you may want to economize on laundry day. Of course part of it is having washing machines that are energy efficient, which can save a lot over an older machine. Also consider the following money saving strategies.
Fill up the washing machine
As much as possible you want to only run the washing machine with full loads. When you run it half full you might end up using more energy and water overall. It also will end up taking you more time and potentially more detergent as well. You will want to fill up your dryer as well. Usually dryers are bigger than washing machines. You may be able to put in two loads of laundry into the dryer. It might take longer than the single load, but probably not the two added together.
Use less expensive products
Laundry detergent can add up in price. You will find many different brands such as Tide and All. You might want to buy store brands instead. You can look for a less expensive store like Costco. Also, look for more concentrated laundry detergents, which might be easier to handle anyways. If you buy in a larger volume you will also usually pay less per unit. You will also find cheaper and store brands for other laundry products like fabric softeners. It isn’t that the most expensive product always works the best, so you can try different products to see what gives you the quality you want at the price you need.
Do not use too much laundry detergent
Oftentimes people throw much more laundry detergent than is necessary, and it is just like throwing money down the drain. Read the instructions thoroughly on the bottle. What’s more you should read the instructions on your washing machine because some of them actually instruct you to put in less than the bottle recommends because they use so much less water.
Consider hang drying
You can save a lot of money by hang drying your laundry instead of drying it in the machine. Even if it is okay to tumble dry, you might want to consider this as a strategy to economize especially if you only have a few items.
Laundry can be expensive but there are things that you can do in order to economize on this day. The more of the above methods you can try, the more you might save.
