Factors that Affect whether a Student should get a Job

There are many benefits of part time jobs for students: money, experience and learning. Despite this, many college students don’t want a job. There are myriad reasons for this, and many students cite a variety of these as the reasons they don’t want a job. These include the following.
College is not easy. Many students spend hour after hour going to class, studying, doing projects, working on homework and so forth. They may want to have all of their time in order to devote to their studies. They may worry that if they got a job they would not have enough time for their studies. When you are a college student, your classes are your jobs. It will not be beneficial if you get a job and your grades suffer for it. Bad grades can do great damage to your GPA and affect your degree, grad school chances and even the chances of getting a job after school. Even one bad semester can make a big difference, and it can be hard to get back from that.
College students have very irregular schedules. You might have a few hours of class, a few hours of break, then some more classes and so forth. In between that you may have other things that you need to do such as study. It can be very difficult to fit in a part time job around these. You might end up working late at night and then feeling exhausted or burned out for your classes. You might have difficulty finding a job that is willing to work around your difficult schedule.
When you get out of college and join the workforce, you will likely be working full time for many years. Many college students anticipate this and would rather have this little bit of time before then to enjoy more free time. They may not want to have to worry about work yet. They may not want to have the responsibility. Also, the logistics can be difficult if the student goes home to another area during the school breaks. The students might not want to worry about having to stay in the college town when they would rather go home.
There are many fun things to do in college. Students might want to join clubs, groups or sports. The may simply want to hang out with friends. A part time job would obviously cut into these things. College is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and they may want to take advantage of all of it without having to worry about answering to a boss.
Some college students don’t really need the money for necessities. A lot of parents support their children through college, thus they may not really need the money. They might rather enjoy themselves while they can and not worry about money.
There are many different reasons why a college student might not want a part time job. Students should think about all of the pros and cons when making the decision on whether working is right for them.
