(433 Words)
When the summer month of August comes, you can do an art project related to this warm time of year. Consider the following ideas.
Month of August calendar
You can make a calendar for just this month as your art project. The children can draw a scene for the top of the calendar that goes along with the month. They can write out the word “August” in a unique way, for instance, and use markers, crayons and paints to make it colorful. They can draw a scene of something they do in August such as playing in the sand. They can then write out the boxes for the calendar on the bottom like you would see on a professional one. This allows them to use their creativity to create a pretty picture on the top and also helps teach them about the days of the month, days of the week, etc.
Vacation themed project
A lot of students go on vacation during the month of August, and thus this can be the theme of the art project. The children can show a method of transportation. For instance, they can use cardboard to cut out the shape of a plane and then they can decorate that. They can make one of a car if this is how they usually travel. You can also make the art project be that they have to draw out a scene of where they have gone on vacation, especially during the month of August or at least a summer month. If they have not recently been on vacation, they can draw a scene from a vacation that they would like to take.
Towel artwork
Many children go in the water in August, either to the pool or the beach. They can make themselves a towel to use. You can purchase plain white towels. You can then look for some fabric paints or markers that are permanent to withstand use and washing. The children can decorate the towels however they want. They may want to draw in a beach scene, flowers, beach balls, etc. They can also tie-dye the towels or use other art methods.
Shell project
Since the month of August reminds many people of the beach, and the beach reminds many people of shells, then this might be a good thing to use for your art project. The students can take a wooden item like a box or a picture frame and glue shells to it.
There are many art projects that would go well in the month of August. Consider the above ideas for your summer class.
