You may want to give your child something fun to eat when they are at school. The following are some creative school lunch ideas for a kid’s lunch box.
Make the sandwich into a fun shape
Even if it is a classic jelly sandwich, you can make it more fun by making it in a fun shape. This will work if your child doesn’t like the crust like so many kids. They sell inexpensive plastic tools that are like cookie cutters for sandwiches. You just put it on top and it will cut off the crust and make the sandwich look like it is a shape. One common one is to make it the shape of hearts.
You can also be creative in the type of sandwich that you make. If your child likes cream cheese and jelly then try mixing it in a sandwich. There is no right or wrong.
Pizza wrap
Your child might like pizza, but that isn’t the easiest of meals to put into a lunch box. Instead you can make a wrap. You can get some sort of pita or tortilla, fill it with pizza sauce and cheese and add any other “toppings” your child would like. Alternatively you can even make your child his or her own “make your pizza” kit in the lunch box. You can put in a healthy pita. You can then put in a little sauce and shredded cheese onto a bag or container. Your child can put it together at lunchtime. Because the cheese needs to stay cold, make sure to have some sort of cooler pack in there.
Bagel and cream cheese
A lot of kids love bagels and cream cheese, and these are very filling. At Target and at other places, they sell tiny containers of cream cheese. You can include these with one of the bagels for a very easy meal.
Smoothies
Your child may love a smoothie and you can make them very healthy. You can mix whatever fruits and vegetables you like. For instance, you can make a healthy one with yogurt, bananas, strawberries, orange, etc. and put it in a thermos. If you are worried about it spoiling you can actually freeze it so that it thaws throughout the school day (and keeps the child’s other food cold) or you can use an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack.
Your child may enjoy a creative school lunch. Consider the above ideas when planning your child’s menu.
