You want to teach children about respect from a very young age, and a bulletin board in a classroom can be a way to show this. Consider the following ideas for creating this board.
Showcase the ways in which you can show respect to people
There are different things that even children can do to be respectful. One of them is by saying please and thank you. Another is by speaking in a polite manner and not being rude. You can show in pictures these different behaviors in a “Do and Don’t” section of the bulletin board.
Show whom you should show respect to
There are many people that you should show respect to – truthfully everyone. However, there are certain people that the children will often come into contact with whom should be respected. You can show pictures or photographs of these people and explain why it is so important. For instance, you can show a picture of the teacher and talk about how the children will learn more if they show respect to their teacher. You can discuss why it is so important for them to show respect to their parents and other family members. You can talk about how it is good to be respectful to your elders. You can talk about the other people whom you should be respectful to such as police officers and firemen.
Show the consequences of being respectful and not being respectful
You want the children to understand what respect can give to them and what it can’t. You can show this on the bulletin board. For instance, you can show that children who are respectful will get praised in class and might get special privileges. Those who don’t will get in trouble and may have to serve detention or have another consequence.
Make a comic showing a child being respectful
A lot of kids love comics and you can make your bulletin board be one. You can show a character being faced with the choice of being respectful or not. He or she can make the right choices.
When you make the bulletin board, it is good to get the children involved so that they may learn about respect better. For instance, you can have them making a drawing of someone being respectful and you can post that up. Instead of just choosing one of the above ideas you can also combine them for a more varied board. Make the board attractive and do not overfill it. With hard work, you can have a very educational bulletin board on respect.
