Ways to Save Money when Buying Mattresses
No matter whether you are looking for an economy mattress or a luxurious one, you probably want to save money any way that you can. There are different strategies that you can use in order to save, including the following.
Compare the prices at different stores
With many products you can go to two different stores and compare the exact same products. Unfortunately this is very difficult to do with mattresses. Many stores will seem to have an entirely different set of mattresses. This is not really true because the mattress companies like Sealy and Serta will often make mattresses that are the same on the inside, put a different cover on them and ship them to different stores. What you can do, however, is to get a feel for how expensive the store is as a whole. You can feel the mattresses and read about their characteristics and compare similar ones. You can shop at discount stores like Costco. Shop at the stores that generally seem more reasonable. You can also look on the Internet, which has many great deals, but be sure to account for shipping.
Negotiate
Unlike many products, mattresses are still often negotiated on. It is not in every store as some like City Furniture do not generally negotiate. Others will, however, and if you are good at this you might be able to get them to lower the price. If you are not, then bring someone with you who is good at negotiating.
Consider a less expensive brand
You might be able to save money on a brand that is generally more reasonable like King Koil. Just because the brand is less expensive does not mean that the mattress is not good (and likewise just because it is expensive does not mean that it is good). Also, many people who sell mattresses make commission. They do not all receive the same percentage of commission on all of the mattresses so they may be motivated to sell you a particular type of mattress. Do not let them steer you to a choice that is not budget-friendly.
Consider the features that you actually need
Some mattresses offer features or have extras that cost more but that really will not make a difference. For instance, some of them boast a very soft high thread count cover. That might be great, but if you cover it with a nice mattress pad and then a sheet, are you actually going to feel the cover? Probably not. Do your research at sources like Consumer Reports to find out what features are actually necessary and which aren’t.
You want to make the right mattress decision. The above tips can help you save on this item.
