It is important to keep both your home and trick-or-treaters safe on Halloween. There are different strategies that you can do in order to accommodate both of these goals. Consider the following ideas.
Make sure that there is plenty of light
Having a well-lit area can help prevent problems. First of all, if someone is up to mischief, then you will be more likely to see them around your home if it is well-lit. Also, there will be a lot of people walking about on Halloween. It is dark, and you do not want someone running into a wall or tripping over the bushes. The lights can also help people spot bugs or other things they may want to avoid. It can also let the trick-or-treaters know that you are “open for business” on Halloween.
Take precautions with any fire
There is nothing like having a lit jack-o-lantern burning brightly on Halloween. You will want to take a lot of precautions with it, however. First of all, you should not leave this unattended. Young children who do not know better might come up to it and hurt themselves or accidently set something on fire. You might want to set it back so that it is not in the direct path of the trick-or-treaters. Make sure that you follow the burning instructions of the candle. One thing you might want to consider if you do want to be able to leave it alone or not worry about it is to get a flickering LED electric candle that looks like a regular candle flickering when it is hidden inside of the pumpkin. Also take precautions with any other fire such as lanterns or candles.
Make sure that there is nothing on the sidewalk or a pathway that could trip trick-or-treaters
You do not want the trick-or-treaters tripping over a hard-to-see potted plant. Examine the area that they are going to walk on and make sure that anything they could trip on is moved. Remember that you might have a bunch of little kids running around who are not necessarily familiar with your house. You want to take extra precautions. Also, if you usually have breakable items out such as a large vase, you might want to put them away. You do not want them to get broken, or worse hurt a child.
Halloween is a holiday full of a lot of fun for homeowners and trick-or-treaters alike. Take the above precautions to avoid problems.
