: What to do if you Lose your Cellphone

:
(406 Words)
It’s something that no one wants to happen. You reach in your pocket or purse and your cell phone is gone. There are different steps you will want to take should you lose your phone, and the order that you do them in will depend on you and where you think you might have lost it. Consider the following ideas.
Call it
The first thing you might want to do when you lose your cell phone is to call it. You want to do this as soon as possible to increase the chances of the batteries still having power. Hopefully you will hear it ringing from somewhere. If you do not hear it in the house, then you can go to your car or wherever else you were and see if it rings there. Also, this is a good idea to do even if you think that you might have lost it in a public place. A good Samaritan might have found it and might answer it to give it back to you.
Contact your cell phone company and get the service shut off
If you are worried that the cell phone was stolen or that someone might find it and take advantage of it, then you might want to call your carrier and ask that they halt the service. You do not want them to dial a long distance call or a call that charges something back to your phone. You could end up with hundreds or even thousands of dollars on it! If you find it then you can always get it started back up again.
Retrace your steps
Sometimes the best way to find your lost cell phone is to retrace your steps. Think about where you last had the phone. Sometimes we frantically turn everything over but if you spend a minute thinking about it instead you will save time and find it. You can call the locations that you recently were and see if anyone found it. You can also leave your information so that if it does turn up they will be able to call you (although don’t bother leaving your cell phone number!) You can walk where you were, looking down on the ground for places where it might have dropped.
Losing your cell phone is not fun, but do not give up hope that it might be found. Consider the above tips to help you find your phone.
