It can be challenging to write effectively when you are tired. The following are tips to help you accomplish such a feat.
Make an outline
When you are tired you may have difficulty staying focused in your writing. You may start to go off on tangents or have difficulty thinking of what you want to include. You might find that you can write more effectively if you start out by making an outline of what you want to write. You can make it as detailed as you want. You can write out the gist of every paragraph or you can further into detail by putting in all of the points you want to cover. It will help you when you are writing to make sure that you get the “meat” of your points in there and can stay on task.
Bring your mind back to the subject if it starts to wander
When you are tired, you may start to think of other things. If you find that you are doing this then try to bring it back to your writing. Force yourself to clear your mind of all other things.
Try to wake yourself up
You may be able to wake yourself up a little when you are writing. If you need a minute to walk around, then this may help you regain your focus so that you can write effectively. Sometimes eating and drinking can help a person feel more awake as well. You may just need a minute to clear your mind. Try to avoid things that will make you more tired such as certain foods and drink.
Pay attention to the mechanics of writing
Think about your vocabulary and grammar as you write. If you are tired you may not write as well as you normally do so you might have to actively work to put out good active sentences.
Check for errors
When you are tired, you may be more likely to make mistakes. You do not want to hand in work that is unprofessional and filled with a multitude of typos. You should therefore make sure to check your work. If you find a lot of errors the first time around, you may even want to check a second time to make sure that you got them all.
Even though it is difficult to write when you are tired, sometimes you have no choice. Consider the above tips to help make your writing effective even with exhaustion.
