When should you start dieting? This answer differs for various people, however the following suggestions may guide you to your answer.
When you are at an unhealthy weight
It may be time to start dieting if you have reached an unhealthy weight. There are guidelines for what a healthy weight should be. It is dependent on a variety of factors, including your height, gender and more. Being overweight can bring many different health problems. You may be more likely to get high blood pressure, type two diabetes, heart problems and more. As you gain more and more over your recommended weight, these risks can compound. Dieting should be considered in order to improve your health and possibly extend your life. You should be wary of starting a diet if you are underweight or are already at healthy weight.
When you are ready to change your life
If you are at an unhealthy weight, losing weight can truly change your life. It can make you a lot healthier. You might find that you have more energy than you have had in years. You might be able to fit into those skinny jeans that you haven’t fit into in decades. You might feel more confidence and be proud of yourself. You might garner more attention. You may even be able to get off medication for ailments like high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes in some cases (obviously only at your doctor’s direction).
When you are ready to follow through
It is no good to start a diet only to cheat the next day. You can lose the weight, but you need to be dedicated. You need to understand that it can be hard to give up the junk food and ridiculous portions of food that many Americans eat. You need to be dedicated. You want to have a plan. Get rid of the junk food in the house. Set up goals for yourself. Do not cheat. Consider keeping a food journal and write down what you eat. However you decide to do it, just make sure that you actually follow through.
When starting any diet plan, it is important to make sure that it is healthy. You may want to consult your physician or a nutritionist. Also, make sure that you find a reasonable, varied diet that is not too restrictive. Watch out for irresponsible fad diets or the many dangerous supplements that are out there. You want to have lots of healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains and not to cut your calories to an unhealthy level. With hard work and effort, you can realize your weight loss goals.
