: How to Cope with the Stress when Plans you have Made Fall through

:
(428 Words)
Did you have your heart set on something that just didn’t happen? It can be so difficult when something we are counting on and assuming will happen doesn’t. Although the stress from this can be tremendous, there are ways to cope to make it better. Consider the following methods.
Do not overload yourself with guilt
Oftentimes guilt is the first thing that comes when plans we have made fall through. We may think about all of the “should haves” and “what ifs.” Let go of this guilt. In the first place, think about whether it truly is your fault. In many cases, nothing we could have done could have prevented it. If it was your mistake then remember that you are human. People do make mistakes – every single one of us does. You cannot change the past but only learn for the future. Accept that you are who you are. Accept that sometimes plans fall through and that it is life. Your only decision is how you are going to deal with it now – as a strong person willing to move on or as someone who is just going to sit and mope about it for the rest of your life.
Be kind to yourself
You should do nice things for yourself to deal with the stress. Try to find some activities that you find relaxing or distracting. For instance, read that leisure book that you consider a guilty pleasure. Watch a little television. Go out with your friends. Live your life. Do not let the stress of broken plans overtake you.
Get support from others
If the broken plans were of the significant variety such as a broken engagement then let others help you. Get out your feelings. Do not leave everything bottled up inside. If you need extra help such as someone to talk to then get it.
Look towards the future
Sometimes the best way to deal with stress from broken plans is to think about the future. Think about the new plans you are going to make. Take steps to make sure the plans are less likely to get broken again (if it is within your power). Move on.
You should consider everything in context. If the broken plans are really pretty minor such as if they were a night’s dinner plans, then consider how much of your life you want to dedicate to the stress of it. Would you rather be stressed or go out and make a new direction? Consider that and the above tips to help you cope with broken plans.
