A first date can make a lasting impression. It can be the test that either propels you to future dates and perhaps even more or the event that precipitates a giant red stop sign. Sometimes a first date is destined to go one way or another, but there are steps you can take to make your first date as successful as possible. The following are tips to help you achieve this.
Be on time
It is very important to be on time to a first date. You want to show the other person that you are making the effort to not keep them waiting. It will make the other person feel poorly if they worked hard to be ready for you but you did not care enough to be on time.
Make yourself up nice
Take your time with your appearance. You should make sure that you are dressed appropriately for the date. You should be neat in your clothes, hair and overall appearance. Show that you made the effort to look nice for you date. It can’t hurt if they are more attracted to you.
Bring a little something
It can be very nice to bring a little something to the date. It is not about spending money but about being thoughtful. For instance, a single rose can say it all. A small box of chocolates, some homemade cookies, anything to show that you made that extra bit of effort.
Be altruistic during the date
Be nice to the other person. Let him or her take the first appetizer. Hold open the door. Pull out a chair. Show that you are a lady or gentleman.
Show interest in what the other person is saying
Do not just talk about yourself. Show interest in the other person and what they like and their interests. Ask questions. Do not just “space out” while they are talking. Hopefully they will do the same for you.
Be yourself
In the end a successful first date is one in which what is supposed to happen happens. If you have great chemistry and a real chance of being right for each other, then you want it to be a good date to lead to others. You will want to be yourself. Do not try to be something that you are not. If it is right, then they will like who you are, no matter what.
