How to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Without Gaining Weight

Freshly-baked cookies. Savory ice cream. Moist cakes with double-chocolate chip fudge icing. For someone with a sweet tooth, these are a delight, yet your waistline and overall health may disagree. Yet when you deprive yourself, you may just end up gouging yourself in frustration. So what is the solution? The following are ways to satisfy your sweet tooth without gaining a lot of weight.
Consider sweet fruit. If you like sweets then you might enjoy some fruit. Perfectly ripe bananas, succulent strawberries and juicy melons can be just as enjoyable as the unhealthy foods, be far better for you and have much fewer calories and fat to make you gain weight. Many of them will be enough to satisfy your sweet tooth and yet do so in a healthy way that will not sabotage your diet.
If you do like a little bit of the bad sweets, then one idea is to combine a healthy fruit with a little bit of a bad sweet to make a dessert that is not too bad. For instance, you could take a banana and then add a little light whipped cream or chocolate syrup to it. This can make it seem more like a dessert to you, but it will still be far better than a dessert that is made of all unhealthy things. Some people will dip apples in a little bit of caramel to give them a little bit of a spark (not the apples that are completely dripping in caramel). For many fruits you will find combinations where you can make a much healthier dessert that is likely to go along with your diet.
You can consider making something like a parfait. Instead of unhealthy fat-laden, artery-clogging ice cream you can get some healthy low fat yogurt. You can then add items to it like fruit or granola. This can make a delicious and healthy treat that is very sweet but not too bad for you.
One thing that some people do is to let themselves have a little bit of a sweet so that they do not feel deprived. For instance, let’s say that you just love chocolate and you couldn’t imagine your life without having it every single day. You could consider letting yourself have three chocolate chips every day. That way you get the flavor of it and know that you will get to have it, but you have so little that it is unlikely to do real damage. Likewise, instead of buying an entire cake at the grocery store, buy a slice of a cake and make it into several smaller pieces. Let yourself have one of the mini pieces every day instead of a big slice.
It can be challenging to satisfy your sweet tooth without gaining weight, but it can be done. Consider the above strategies to help you with your goal.
