Should you Coordinate the Decor in your Home
Some people choose to coordinate all of the decor throughout their entire home. Others have a different decor or look for each room in the house. There is no right or wrong way, and it is really a matter of personal preference and logistical considerations. Think about the following advantages and disadvantages of coordinating the decor of your home when deciding whether it is right for you.
Advantages
Many people like to coordinate the decor of their homes because they feel that it provides a more sophisticated look. They may like that it has a theme and feel better about the decor continuing as they move from room to room.
A coordinated decor is also good for people who have a very specific way that they like to decorate their homes. For instance, if you really just like one style or one type of color scheme then you may just naturally coordinate your entire home and choose that theme for everything. You might just want to be surrounded by that type of theme.
It is easier to match the decor of your entire home. You can save a lot of time and effort because you only need to choose one set of furnishings for everything. For instance, when choosing window treatments you might get matching curtains for all of the windows in your home. This obviously takes less time and is easier than picking out a different type of window treatment for each room in the house. You also might like how it looks from the outside since all the curtains will match. If you do not have a lot of time in which to decorate your house, then this can simplify things.
Disadvantages
A lot of people enjoyed using their creativity to decorate different areas in different ways. If you pledge to coordinate the entire home the same way, then you will lose this ability. You might like to see variety in your home with different types of window treatments, wall decorations and other furnishings. If instead you have a set theme, then you may not end up being able to purchase things that you like because they do not match the decor.
Coordinating the decor can also be a problem when different people with various tastes are in charge of different parts of the home. For instance, mother might like to decorate her bedroom, father might want to decorate the office, and each of the kids might want to decorate their own rooms and the play room. If you choose a coordinated theme, then these individual people may not be able to decorate as they want to and they may feel bad that their own spaces do not match their tastes.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to coordinating the decor of a home. Think about the above factors when deciding whether you want to decorate your home in this manner.
