Utilizing Your Time Effectively

Many people are strapped for time in today’s hustle and bustle world. No matter how little time you have, there are ways that you can use your time effectively. The following are some tips for being productive with the time that you have.
Know your goals for each activity and focus on that
Sometimes we have something we want to do but we keep going back and forth to other things that we do not get what we wanted to get done completed. For instance, let’s say you want to clean all of the floors. Well, you pass by the phone and remember that you need to make a quick phone call. Then you pass by the refrigerator and decide you need a snack. Then you remember that your favorite show is on so you need to watch that. You might spend so much time switching activities and refocusing yourself that you do not get what you wanted to get accomplished done – cleaning the floors. A lot of times it takes a little while to get started in something and if you are constantly switching back and forth you lose time. Also, know what it is that you want to accomplish so you can get to that point.
In addition to focusing physically, you are going to want to focus mentally. It can be difficult to do something if you are thinking about other things. Unless you are purposely multitasking, do not worry about all that you have to do but work on the issue at hand.
Limit interruptions
Interruptions can make it very difficult to be effective and productive in the time that you have. These include a ringing phone, text messages, e-mail, the door, etc. Obviously, some things we can’t help, but as much as possible, try to avoid interruptions. You may want to turn off the phone (or only answer for emergencies) and stay away from your computer.
Multitask if you can
There are many times that you can multitask and still get the same results as if you had done the items separately. One example is if you are exercising on an exercise bike and have to make some phone calls to family. You may be able to talk on the phone at the same time you are exercising. Let’s say you need to study for an exam, but your famished. You might be able to eat and study at the same time. Just be careful to make sure that you can give everything the attention necessary to do a good job.
