An office manager can make a large difference in the way an office runs. They can have a very strong positive – or negative – effect on an office, so it is important to get someone who is qualified to do the job. The following are tips on what to look for when hiring an office manager.
He or she is organized
An office manager will often deal with many different things at once. It is absolutely vital that an office manager be organized. There will be a lot of very important things that they are dealing with, and if they forget a few, there can be a disaster. Certain people are just very good at organizing. They can keep on top of a lot of things and do not allow things to fall under the radar. Try to find such a person.
He or she is good with people
The office manager is often dealing with a lot of different people. It would be advantageous to have an office manager who is good at working with people. You want someone who will be able to work things out as much as possible to everyone’s satisfaction. You want people to like him or her and be comfortable with working with them. If people have issues they should be able to go to him or her to deal with it.
He or she is reliable
You want someone who is reliable and trustworthy. They should show up to work on time. An office manager is very important, and if you cannot count on when they will be there, then different things can start to go wrong. In addition, you want someone who will be at work most of the time. Obviously, things can come up for anyone, and people do get sick and have legitimate reasons to miss work. This should be limited, however, because you want to be able to know that the person will be there when you need them.
He or she has experience in such a position
It will be advantageous to hire an office manager who already has experience in such a position or at least a similar position. This may reduce the amount of training that you will need to provide.
He or she is dedicated to his or her job
You want someone who will show dedication to the job. You want them to like the job if possible, so that they will try their best to do it well. If they are unhappy, then it does not matter how skilled they are, they just might not make the effort to do the job right.
