How to Find Motivation when You’re Depressed

In the darkness of depression, it can be challenging to find the motivation to perform even the smallest of tasks. There are different steps that you can take in order to help yourself find this motivation. Consider the following activities.
Think about your loved ones
Think about not what you don’t have, but who you do have. Almost everyone has loved ones, from children to spouses to parents to more. Very few people are truly alone. Even if you do not have family, perhaps you have friends to call on. Let these people be your motivation. If you have kids, then think about what you want to teach them – what you want to show them. Aren’t they worth it? Also, it can be difficult to spend the quality time with your family and friends when you are depressed. Think about what it might mean to them to spend time with you.
You should also let your loved ones support you. When you are depressed you may have had many offers of support from family and friends. They might offer an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on or just a person to go out with. Take them up on these and you might find that you can get some of your motivation back.
Give yourself something meaningful to do
Sometimes you need to find something new to be excited about. Start a new hobby that you have always wanted to do such as photography or playing an instrument. Take a leisure class. Another great thing to do is to volunteer. You can feel good about yourself as you are helping others. You might also see that there are others who have far more challenging situations than you, yet are thriving.
Get extra help
Perhaps you need extra help to feel motivated again. Go to the bookstore and look for books on motivation when you are depressed. You will find many different ones. There are support groups that you can join as well. You will find a lot of information on the Internet. You can also talk to a counselor. Many people have done it and even going a short time can turn your life around.
At some point you just need to decide whether you want to keep living like this. Even if you do not feel motivated, force yourself to get out and do things. It will get easier as time goes on. Make the decision that you want to get over the depression. You are strong enough.
