Making a Space for Studying
(471 Words)
A homework or study space provides an area where one can study in a comfortable place. It should be insulated from distraction and allow you to focus on your work at hand. Whether you choose to make this space a dedicated area used only for studying or a multipurpose area, consider the following steps.
Choose the location
First, carefully consider where the homework or study space will be. In some cases this will be already decided; for instance, you may have a desk already in your room. If you have several choices, then you must consider various factors. First, find a place where you are the least likely to be disturbed. This is especially important if there are others living in the home. Try to find a place where you will not be distracted to do something else. For instance, if you have a window that faces your inviting outdoor pool then you may be daydreaming of that instead of your homework. Also find a place that is best insulated against noise. Obviously you also need enough space.
Create your area
There are many choices of desks. These include everything from large, expensive and attractive pieces of furniture to inexpensive pieces purchased from discount stores. Try to find something that meets your needs as far as work and drawer space. Obviously budget is a consideration. Also consider how your needs might change in the next few years.
Also consider the chair. A chair that is too comfortable may prompt you to get sleepy, however you want one that is comfortable, especially if you will be sitting in it for long periods of time. Evaluate the different options at office supply stores such as Staples.
Put everything you need at hand
To add convenience to your studying or homework area, include all the things that you think you will need while working. For instance, make a list of the items you commonly need while studying. This may include common school supplies such as paper, pens and pencils. It will probably include electronics such as a computer and peripheral equipment. It will also include items for your particular area of study such as your textbooks. You can also put in things that might motivate you such as a Successories motivational poster.
There are also items you may specifically not want to include in the study space. For instance, if a television, stereo or computer would tempt you to distraction, then try to avoid having these in your study area.
Maintain your area
Keep your study and homework space clean. Do not clutter the desk so that it is hard to work. Make changes as necessary.
A homework or study space will help you work effectively and efficiently. Reevaluate your needs as you progress in school to make sure you have everything you need.
