Bulletin boards can beautify a classroom and teach students about the wonders of the world around them. Unfortunately, they can also cost quite a bit of money in supplies. There are various sources where you may be able to find free supplies for your board.
Libraries
Libraries will sometimes have bins of free items. People will leave items that they do not need for others to use. You may find cut-outs of pictures that would be perfect for your board. Many libraries also have a variety of bulletin boards. They may or may not reuse the materials from the board. You can ask them if you can have any of the extra material from their boards for your own.
Nature
You can use nature as an inspiration for supplies for your bulletin board. For instance, if you are doing a bulletin board on plants, then go outside and take some leaves to glue up on your board. If you are doing a board on flowers, then you can press some flowers into the board. Even if your bulletin boards is not about nature, you can still use these items as embellishments for your board.
Swap with other teachers
Chances are that many of the other teachers in the school are also making bulletin boards for their own classes. They may have beautiful and expensive supplies. Perhaps you have some supplies that are nice, but you do not want to use the same things over again. You can talk to the other teachers to see if they will lend or give you the supplies from their boards in exchange for your supplies. You can even talk to the teachers about everyone getting together with bulletin boards supplies that they no longer need. People can give and take what they want.
Catalogs/flyers
You can use pictures from catalogs, flyers and mailers for your bulletin boards. For instance, you may make a bulletin boards showcasing that everyone is unique in their own way. You can use pictures of people with different backgrounds, hair colors, skin tones, etc. Instead of buying photographs of people, you can just post up pictures of people from magazines and catalogs.
