Do not eat a lot of sweets
Many children just love sweets. From cake to candy to ice cream and everything in between they might eat dessert at every meal. Some parents do not do enough to dissuade their children of these poor eating habits and may actually partake themselves. Junk food is often high in sugar, calories and fat and often has little to no nutritional value. The less junk food a child consumes, the better.
Eat your fruits and veggies
Fruits and vegetables are extremely important for a child. They can give the child the nutrients he or she needs in order to grow up healthy. They will set him or her on a path to eating these important items, which in the long run help people fight all sorts of health conditions from heart problems to strokes to cancer. The different nutrients help with different things and can help a child grow strong both physically and mentally.
Eat healthy whole grains
There are many healthy whole wheat grains that can help a child grow. Much of the white bread is not as good as the wheat bread. Some people will even think that having the bread in a slice of pizza is a good type of bread – instead it is usually laden with fat.
Limit unhealthy fare at fast food restaurants and other locations
Hamburgers are usually far from healthy. Neither are much of the other food found at many fast food restaurants such as French Fries, fried chicken and more. Children should eat these meals, either out or at home, as little as possible. Fried and greasy food is often not very healthy, and can have a lot of unhealthy saturated fat. There are items at some fast food restaurants, which are healthier.
Limit soda and other sugary “empty calorie” drinks
Many people call them empty calorie drinks because you get a lot of calories for little to no nutritional value. These are drinks like soda and such, which can also provide a lot of caffeine for a little kid. Try to limit these to be once in a while treats.
