You can save a great deal of money by using hand-me-downs. You will need to deal with the issue or storing them in the interim, however, and doing so correctly will make it more likely that they stay in clean and wearable condition. Utilize the following storage tips.
Clean them before you store them
Do not store dirty clothing. If there is a little bit of dirt, then it might get worse while it is stored or make another item of clothing dirty as well.
Make sure they are dry before you store them
Moisture is the enemy of stored clothing. Even a little bit of dampness can promote mold growth, and the clothing item might become unusable.
Pick something safe to store them in
You want whatever storage item you utilize to safely protect your clothing. What you store them in will depend on where you will store them of course. If you are storing them in a bedroom, then it might just be in a chest of drawers or closet. If they will be somewhere where there are a lot of things piled on top of them and you want them to stay safe then you might choose something with a hard side such as a large plastic container. You will see many storage solutions at stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Also think about how being stored in a certain way affects some clothing. For instance, some sweaters are not meant to be hung because that can cause them to sag down.
You might want to strongly consider space bags. You put the clothes in special bags and suck all of the air out. It reduces the size the clothing takes up significantly and allows you to store much more in the same space.
Make sure that you store them somewhere where they won’t get ruined
Even if they are clean and dry, there could be a problem if you store them somewhere that isn’t. If there is a lot of moisture, then it can get in and ruin them. There are also bugs and animals that can destroy textiles.
Label everything carefully
You might have a lot of different clothing of different sizes, for different seasons, etc. Instead of putting everything into a mish-mash, you might want to organize and label them beforehand. This will make it much easier to get them down the road.
Storing clothing can save you a lot of money and you want it to be as simple and hassle free as possible with the clothing coming out in good condition. The above tips can help you achieve this goal.
