Get something that is quality made
Obviously, you want something that is a quality piece of furniture that will not fall apart right away. Just because you spend more money does not necessarily mean you are getting a quality piece and just because you do not spend a lot doesn’t mean that you aren’t. You could look up reviews of the different brands to see if one brand has a lot of good reviews or ratings. In addition, friends or family members might be able to give you a recommendation. Of course, you can ask the salesperson, but be wary of this. He or she will have an ulterior motive – the more expensive piece that you buy, typically the more money that they make in commission. Sometimes you can also tell one that is better quality by feeling it and looking at it.
Get something that is as durable as you need it to be
Certain sofas will stand up better against rough wear, spills, etc. Especially if you have a reason for needing a sofa that can take a lot of abuse and still look good, such as if you have small children or pets, then you will want to look for one that is durable. Some of them will be easier to wipe or keep clean. Others may stain more easily or show dirt more easily.
Get something that will fit in nicely in your home
You will want to take into consideration the room into which it is going. You want it to look nice in the room. You can get it in a matching or contrasting color. Be careful about getting something that will clash or look out of place in your room.
Look for something in your budget
Price compare different stores. A lot of times you can get very similar things for very different prices. Some stores simply have a higher markup. The same is true of certain brands. If you have the extra money, that is fine, but just make sure that you are getting something for the extra money that you are spending.
