2210 Words: 411
Sharing is an important lesson for preschoolers, one that they will hopefully carry with them as they grow into adulthood. There are many ways that you can teach this to young preschoolers. Try the following techniques in your classroom to impart this lesson.
Put them in pairs and have them practice sharing
One exercise would be to have them practice sharing. You can pair them up. Then give them a toy, one for the two of them. They should both play with that toy. They can take turns or both play with it at the same time. Then you can have the different pairs switch toys and they can practice sharing another toy. You can show them the different ways that they can share the toys. You can display how to do this, i.e. talking about how one person can use it first and then the other can use it. You can talk about how it is good to let one person be the first with one toy and then the other person can be the first with another toy.
Have the student discuss why sharing is good
You can have a class discussion on why sharing is good. You can have the students come up with reasons of why it is good to share. You can also discuss why it is sometimes necessary to share – because you just do not have enough of something for everyone to have their own. Also, you can have them talk about items that they have to share with their siblings, friends or classmates. You can have them discuss how it feels when someone shares with them and how it feels when someone does not share. They can talk about past experiences. They can also talk about how they plan to share in the future.
Have them draw a picture about sharing
Many children this age love to draw, even if they are the only person who can interpret what they are drawing. You can have them make their own picture of two people sharing. You can then have them talk about how each of the people in the picture feel. Likewise you can have them draw a picture of people who are not sharing and have them talk about how they feel. They can look at each other’s pictures and you can start a discussion from there.
It is important to teach preschoolers about sharing. Consider the aforementioned techniques when teaching this lesson.
