It can be a challenge for new vegetarians to eat at fast food restaurants. It may seem like every single meal has meat in it. However, once you become accustomed to the vegetarian options at fast food restaurants, you will find many more choices. The following are tips for eating vegetarian at fast food restaurants.
There are fast food restaurants that have full meals for vegetarians
We’re not talking just salads. You can look for fast food restaurants that are more vegetarian-friendly. One such restaurant is Burger King. Among their meat burgers is a decent veggie burger. They can put the same toppings on it as their other sandwiches. In addition, they have a lot of vegetarian sides such as apple fries. Another good fast food restaurant would be Subway, Blimpie’s or another sub shop. All of these can make a cheese sub (or a sub of just veggies if you are a vegan). They have many toppings to make it a nice full meal. In addition, some sub shops also have imitation meats to put in. Another good place to eat would be the Pollo Tropical chain found in Florida. They have nice vegetarian foods such as black beans, rice with vegetables, plantains, various vegetables and more.
Other fast food restaurants have good sides that can be made into a meal
Some fast food restaurants might not have a full meal that is vegetarian but they may have some good options with very nice sides better than just French fries or potato chips. For instance, Wendy’s can make a very nice baked potato with different delicious toppings. If you combine that with a salad and another side or two you can have a decent meal.
Not everything that sounds vegetarian is
For instance, some people may assume that all French fries are vegetarian. This is far from true. When you ask, you will probably find out that they are not about half the time. This is for several reasons. First, they sometimes use a chicken stock or another animal product in making the French fries. Another thing they might do is to use the same oil to fry both the fries and the chicken fingers. You will find this at a lot of fast food restaurants so should ask specifically about this. This could make many items non-vegetarian so you should always ask. There are other items that might not be vegetarian such as rice that might use a stock.
