2148 Words: 405
It is sometimes challenging to leave your job with dignity when you are fired. You may feel a variety of emotions and want more than anything to make the most undignified scene in the world. There is something to be said for leaving with dignity, however, and it can make you feel better in the long run. The following are tips for doing so.
Do not make a big scene with your boss
Especially if you feel like you are being fired without good reason, it will be very tempting to take the nearest glass of water and splash it into the face of your smug boss’ face. Typically that is not a good idea. If you want to leave with dignity, then you might want to try to avoid a huge scene with your boss. It will serve to accomplish little, and is likely to only make you feel more agitated, worked up and worse. If it escalates too far, he might call security, and getting escorted out because you were threatening the boss is definitely not dignified. Obviously, you can talk to your boss about it if you think that there is a chance that you can salvage your position, however when it is obvious that nothing you say or do will matter then you should stop. You will not feel proud of yourself afterwards if you get into a huge shouting match with him, or worse, if you beg him for a job and make yourself seem pathetic. If you do not feel that it is right, then by all means stick to that, but do not make a huge scene for everyone to talk about.
Do not talk to everyone about everything that happened with every single colleague
You might not feel very dignified afterwards if in anger you share your entire sad story with every single person in the office. They might feel bad for you, but later you might feel worse for talking bad about everyone. Remember that the other employees are in an awkward position. They still work there and probably want to keep their jobs. You do not want to put them in a position where they could lose their jobs because they have been caught talking badly about the boss behind his or her back.
Walk out with your head held high. At the end, you can feel dignified no matter what happened in your job.
