Choosing Colors for your Baby Nursery

(461 Words)
You want your baby’s first room to be magical. There are many different color schemes that you can use to create the room you envision. Consider the following ideas.
First, you might want to think about the standard baby colors.. Many parents want a girl’s room to be pink or a boy’s room to be blue. This can be a good starting point. Of course, you want it to last, so Better Homes and Gardens recommends being careful about painting it so brightly that the child will outgrow it too quickly.
Another thing that it is helpful to consider is what colors are not a good idea. For example, according to HGTV, newborns can only see black and white, and red is confusing. You should also look at the general color scheme of your home if you have one. You might want the nursery to go with the other areas.
You can think about your theme when deciding what colors to make the nursery. For instance, if you want a fish and underwater theme, you can choose colors such as blue and green. If you want a beach theme, you may use alternate natural colors.
One idea is to branch off into the colors from the bedding set that you choose. Many people buy a complete bedding set for the nursery, which may include the blanket, sheets, a crib bed skirt and even curtains and other window treatments. You may want to coordinate the colors of the nursery with this. You can branch out with several colors.
Some bedding sets also coordinate with a wall border. For something pretty, put the wallpaper border in the middle of the wall and then put contrasting colors on the top and bottom. For instance, you may have a rainbow border and then put yellow on top and purple on the bottom for a very attractive and colorful look.
Remember that different colors portray different things. For instance, light colors will make a room seem larger, whereas dark colors will make it seem smaller. Also, you might feel like green hues relax you whereas warm colors like red make it seem warm.
You can also look at the color wheel. This shows you the different colors and can help you see which ones look best together. Creative Baby Nursery Rooms suggests having two basic colors and then adding in two accent colors; although, you can add more if you want. They also suggest staying in one family such as having all pastel colors or all bright colors.
There are many different color schemes that you can choose for your baby’s room. Look online and in magazines to see examples of the different color combinations.
