Christmas Uncommon Ways to Save Money at Christmas

Most people know how to save money by shopping during sales at Christmas, however there are also uncommon ways that you can cut costs. Consider the following ideas for Christmas of 2010.
Swap someone’s house for your vacation
You may normally spend a lot on your Christmas vacation because of the hotel cost, the rental car cost, eating out and so forth. If you want to go on vacation but can’t afford all of those expenses during the difficult economy of 2010, then consider whether you can swap a home, car, etc. with a relative. Of course find someone that you completely trust because they will be staying in your home and using your things. You can each just spend the vacation in each other’s towns. You can visit with family close to there or go to the local attractions. It can be a great way to get away without incurring most of the costs except for the transportation there.
Exchange gifts of happy memories
Most of us spend a lot of money on gifts for our families. You may spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars and in return get gifts back that you do not even need. Instead you can decide as a family that you will instead give each other something far more special. You can get a very inexpensive notebook for everyone (you can usually find these for just a couple of dollars). You can then send the notebook around to everyone in the family and everyone can write down special memories that they have about the person, what they admire about them and anything else they want to say. They can write a single page or many pages. At the end everyone will have a journal filled with all of these special messages from everyone in their family. It will only cost a few dollars each and yet it can be something that they can keep forever and which they might treasure more than the most expensive bauble.
Spend Christmas in the woods
One special way to save money is to go on a Christmas camping trip to an inexpensive local destination instead of having a huge Christmas dinner at the house. You can spend the special holiday under the stars. Even without overdoing it on the food, it can still be a great holiday.
There are many uncommon ways to save money on Christmas for 2010. The above ideas may work well for you and your family.
