Cyber Monday is a Marketing Myth
(415 Words)
Many people allege that Cyber Monday is a marketing myth. There are various arguments that support this theory, and in many ways it is true.
Cyber Monday is given by many online retailers as a response to Black Friday. Unlike on Black Friday, however, a lot of online retailers give deals that are no better than during other sales the rest of the year. If you go to the malls on Black Friday you are likely to see many stores offering items for cheaper than any of the other 364 days during the year. Stores that rarely give sales or give small ones will do something special during this time. You can truly get amazing deals.
The deals you get during Cyber Monday are often not as stellar. A lot of online retailers will give deals no better or worse than the deals they give at other times. They may have good sales, but not necessarily great sales like you will see during Black Friday.
A lot of online retailers have brick and mortar stores also. Many of these and those with just an online presence do something very big for Black Friday. Many of the websites mirror the deals available in stores. When Cyber Monday comes around, they may not have as great deals as they had during Black Friday. Many consumers will consider it a myth if they will pay more for the items during Cyber Monday than if they had shopped a few days before on Black Friday.
Online retailers are looking for any way that they can to draw people in. If you look at their ads every week during the holiday season many of them will have you believe that every single day is the day for the best sales. Obviously it cannot truly be every day and in many cases it is not Cyber Monday. For a lot of companies, it is just another way that they can draw people in to purchase. Also, many online retailers have the sales on Cyber Monday last for multiple days thus there may be nothing particular special about that day.
You will find some great deals during Cyber Monday, but in many cases it will not be much more than the deals you will see in the days leading up to Christmas. It may also not be as good as the deals you would have received during Black Friday leaving many to consider it a marketing myth. The above reasons support this.
