How to Choose Fish for an Aggressive Freshwater Aquarium
If you are looking to stock your aggressive freshwater fish tank, you will have many different options of fish. The fish you get will determine not only how the fish tank looks but also whether the tank will be successful. The following are tips for choosing fish for such a tank.
Be sure to get fish that will not harm each other
Because the tank will generally be aggressive you can get fish that are labeled as such. However that doesn’t mean that you can just combine any type of aggressive fish. You obviously do not want your tank to lose half of its fish because half of them kill the other half. Certain fish will fight each other and should not be put together. Sometimes it is about size. If you get one that is much smaller, in some cases it could be trouble. You will want to do research on the Internet or in books or have an in-depth conversation with someone knowledgeable at the fish store. You want to be sure that all of the fish you choose can live together in peace. Obviously things can happen, but there are certain fish that should never be put together whereas others generally do okay. This is especially important to check in an aggressive tank.
Make sure that you do not overfill the tank
Fish need room to swim and live. There is only a certain amount of fish recommended for a tank. This will depend on the size of the fish compared to the size of the tank. Armed with both of these statistics, you should be able to get an idea on the Internet or from a professional at the fish store. Because of this you might want to consider how big the fish get when you buy them. Some fish will grow very large and limit the amount of other fish you can buy very quickly. Others will not grow as large. Think about how many fish you want and whether you want ones that are very large or smaller.
Consider how the fish look
Obviously for most a fish tank is about how it looks and makes your home or office look. You will want to consider the fish that you find attractive. Think about how they will look together with each other.
Of course make sure to only get fish that are labeled freshwater. Consider the above tips to help you pick the fish for your tank.
